How DTF Works

What Is DTF Printing?

DTF stands for Direct-to-Film. Your design is printed onto a special film using full-color ink, then a powder adhesive is applied and cured. The transfer is then heat-pressed directly onto your garment.

The result is a vibrant, soft, full-color print with no color limitations and no need for screens. Because there's no setup cost per color, DTF is extremely cost-effective for small quantities and complex artwork.

DTF works on virtually any garment color — no white underbase needed — and produces crisp, detailed results even on small text and fine lines.

Is there a minimum order for DTF printing?

No — DTF has no minimum order. You can order a single piece. This makes it ideal for samples, one-offs, or small personalized runs.

How does DTF compare to screen printing in quality?

Both produce excellent results but in different ways. DTF excels at full color, photographic detail, and fine lines. Screen printing produces a slightly softer hand feel and is more cost-effective at high volumes. For most customers the quality difference is minimal.

Can DTF be printed on any color garment?

Yes — DTF works equally well on light and dark garments. Unlike screen printing, it doesn't require a white underbase on dark fabrics, which keeps costs lower for dark-colored apparel.

How durable is DTF printing?

DTF transfers are very durable when properly cared for. We recommend washing inside out in cold water and avoiding high heat in the dryer. With proper care, DTF prints last as long as the garment.

What file format do I need for DTF printing?

A high-resolution PNG with a transparent background is ideal for DTF. We also accept PDF, AI, and EPS files. If you need help preparing your artwork, our team can assist.
